Record Label Companies
Rules & Etiquette
Working with record label companies can be a challenge if you aren't intelligent about the situation. Being smart doesn't mean that you have to be untrue or lie to the label. However, it does mean that you have to follow pretty specific rules and etiquette guidelines to ensure success.
For example, you need to understand that new signings to record label companies sometimes don't get the same kind of immediate support as more established bands. You also need to take the time to show your stuff before you start demanding a lot of changes to your contract.
Lastly, you need to let the company make the offer to you before they sign you, rather than the other way around. Trying to force a specific deal is never a good idea. That doesn't mean, however, that you take the first deal that comes your way. Instead, you can work with them to find one that you like the best.
